Blondie appears to be a standard Dachshund and quite a nice girl. She came in and immediately joined our pack, blending seamlessly with all our other dogs and interacting well with our volunteers. She appears to have recently had a litter of pups, but we will soon remedy her getting in that condition again. Please come meet this wonderful girl...we don't get standard Dachshunds all that often!

Meet Bones. He is a hiker extraordinaire and loves to spend time with people. He is very enthusiastic about playing and learning new games. A perfect day for Bones is taking a long hike, working on his training, and getting a couple of naps in snuggled on your lap. Bones arrived at GDRP as a result of the Lake County Fires in 2016 and was never claimed by his family. He prefers the company of a larger female dog, and believes that cats and small dogs are designed to chase. Because we want him to find a home where he could be the most successful, we believe he would do bes with an experienced handler, large fenced yard, and a moderate hiker or avid runner. He has a strong prey drive so no small dogs or cats. Does your family love to go on adventures and have a canine companion by your side? You might be the perfect match for goofy Bones. Bones is approximately 3.5 years of age and weighs 60 pounds. My adoption comes with a free training. We hear all forms of logic when people look to add a pet to the family. In the case of our two C(K)aitlyn's, the owner apparently wanted a pair of dogs that she would not outlive, because the loss of a pet is so terribly painful. While we can appreciate the pain of losing a beloved pet, we also see the impact the loss of a human has upon a dog left behind. In this case, Kaitlyn and her housemate Caitlyn, now cling to one another after losing their human. More unfortunate was that there was no 'directive' for what was to happen to these two senior girls, so friends of the deceased placed the girls into a boarding facility for nearly 4 mos. while they determined what to do with these girls. Green Dog Rescue Project was contacted and brought them into our program with the expectation that we will find this bonded pair a home together. We have updated their vaccinations, micro chipped them, and completed a MUCH needed dental on both girls, and they are now ready to find THEIR new forever home where someone will care and love them for the next 5-7 years. These two sweet, affectionate, and eager to find a lap for lovin' girls DO qualify for our Silver Paws grant, made possible by our wonderful friends at Paws for Love Foundation.

The resilience of animals never ceases to amaze us here at GDRP. "Chewy" and his brother "Wookie" were only 2 of the 121 animals discovered in Chowchilla as part of a hoarding situation. It was unclear how long they had lived in the situation, but what was clear is their lack of contact from caring providers, and their distrust of humans. Over the past several months, GDRP volunteers have worked their magic on these boys, and they now accept affection, live with the pack, and can walk on leash. They are still in need of a patient and gentle handler that will continue to build their faith in people, but they have come leaps and bounds frm the once terrified and semi feral dogs they once were. If you have time, patience, space, and love, perhaps you might consider giving one or both of these boys the "REST" of their lives in a loving home unlike any they may have ever known.

CHIP and DALE!! This pair of boys have endured more than most should, and yet they continue to take small steps to finding both their courage and trust in people. For reasons unknown to us, Chip and Dale were helped by a good samaritanafter they were seen being thrown from a moving car out the window, while in a black trash bag. Carelessly discarded as thoughtheir lives were no more valuable than the garbage you put in your trash bin nightly. A witness to the event gathered the dogs and brought them to GDRP, but not before taking down the license number and reporting it! BRAVO. Chip and Dale are very leary of trusting people, and why wouldn't they be after such an ordeal, however they continue to amaze us by taking baby steps regularly. Initially we preferred thatthese two be adopted together, but they have made so much progress and we believe they could be adopted separately now. Chip is a little more confident than Dale and is ready to find that new home. These dogs love treats and LOTS of chicken... the quickest way to their hearts andis through their tummies.

This beautiful young guy isa complete marshmallow once he gets his energy level lower, and when he is with people he wants to melt right into you, snuggle on the couch, or simply be your pillow. His dog-to-dog social skills were neglected in his previous environment however, and he is in need of some leash work. Our volunteers and trainers have been working with Chuck and he has greatly improved. He will need someone willing to continue to work and train Chuck so he can increase his socialization skills and bethe best dog he can be. He's young and willing and very energetic.

Conan and his two brothers came into Green Dog from the Fresno area in February 2018. He was the largest of the three boys as a pup. He loves playing with toys and tussling with his brothers. He was adopted in March and wasreturned to us last week. He is going to be neutered on 9-13 and then he will be ready to go home! He is a big, active and quite the pill...full of himself and all his energy. Conan will need a strong "alpha" owner who knows how to handle a young, energetic dog and teach him his manners with people and other dogs.

When rescuer's discovered Dusty, they realized that she was pregnant and due to deliver at any moment. By noon that same day she went into labor and eventually delivered 9 puppies, 8 males, 1 female on 08/06/2018. This little Chug is a happy, loving boy who is very affectionate. He's happy to sit in your lap and soak up as much love as you have to give. He's about 1.5 years old. Eclipse needs to be in a cat free home with dog savvy children over the age of 10. His confidence that he is much bigger than he is can sometimes create a challenge on walks, as he is convinced that other dogs are trying to usurp his placement in his home, and he apparently wants to denounce that idea and prove his claim of dominance... in other words, he needs some serious leash work! Are you up for the challenge?

Freya heard the GDRP van was going to be in Redding for a casting call, and she could barely contain her excitement. After providing us with an incredibly display of jovial behavior... over the top romance... and the ability to portray the role of Masterful Dog Play Companion... there was no doubt that she would be joining the GDRP cast of available dogs deserving a forever home. We were thrilled when she packed her backpack and joined us for the trip back to Sonoma County. Although she may be a little more mature in her years than some of her fellow cast, nothing slows her down and she would make a great addition to any Lifetime movie. Come meet Freya today and watch her perform the role of perfect pet!

"You have to ask yourself... Do you feel Lucky?" Yes... "Dirty Harry" will leave you asking exactly that. After spending an unknown amount of time in a kennel in the belly of Chowchilla, and part of a massive animal hoarding situation, "LUCIFER" arrived at GDRP with little hope of finding peace or safety. We hoped changing his name would help to change his outlook on life... and there was an intentional spin on the name considering his distrust of people. He has a long way to go before he might 'make your day', but with time, patience, an appreciation to do things on HIS time, and a quiet household, you might just be the key to his eventual success.

This young lab boy is full of energy! He will need plenty of space to run! He is happy, excitable, goofy and seems to love everyone he meets. He will need someone with patience and encouragement to continue teachinghim basic commands and set some clear boundries. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME... and Kaidee is in search of a home for herself. After spending her life with her previous family and reaching her 'golden years', the family aquired a pup that was simply too much for her once peaceful lifestyle. She was the target of a handful of attacks from the new pup, which required medical care. Eventually the family came to the conclusion they could not have both dogs in the home, and due to Kaidee's age, they requested a veterinarian to euthanize her. Being the true champion that this veterinarian was, he refused the family's request, as there was no legitimate reason to end her life... and instead he contacted GDRP and requested we take her and find her a new home that would let her live her life out in comfort and peace. Kaidee is currently being fostered at our Director's home and shares her space with a small pack of little dogs living in harmony. She is affectionate, gentle, quiet, and patient. She would be best suited for a home that is not very active, only desiring to have a short walk daily. She has mild arthritis in her back hips, and takes a little bit of time to stretch when getting up after lying down for long periods. She is housebroken, polite, and non-intrusive. What she desires most is to be provided the love and care a senior is due.

Liberty has earned her name when she broke free of the chains of opression at a Chowchilla hoarding situation. Unfamiliar with human touch and love, she is taking a bit of time and lots of patience to trust us, but every day she impresses us with ability to try. Youth is on her side, and we will continue to coach a potential foster, or adopter, in hopes of helping her overcome her fears and build her confidence. She might be able get along with cats but would need constant watching at first, to set the tone. She doesn't give up on hassling a cat, even after getting her nose hit a few times! Typical terrier!

If you are looking for someone to COMPLETELY celebrate your arrival in the room, THIS is your guy. Once he is past his nervousness, and stops being a bit coy, this little character will announce to the world that he is OVERJOYED to see you. He jumps, spins, rolls, and squeels to celebrate your presence. He is quite the cuddler, but may be a bit too timid with children under 8. He loveswalks, and even endures bath time with little objection. He just participatd in our summer day camp and did very well with kids over 10. He has recently started showing some agression with other dogs so we are looking for a foster to help get him back on the right path.

She seems to love just about everyone she meets so come down and meet her! She has a beautiful brindle coat that you just have to see to appreciate! One of our experienced foster volunteers has taken her home to see how she does with cats and found that she is very incredibly well, even getting along with those who were unsure about her. If we could insert the theme to JAWS in this post then this would be the dog to add it to. In truth, Sal is not too challenging with most humans... a bit nervous and unsure, but willing to trust and accept affection, which is remarkable considering his history. An unknown period of time spent in a cage in Chowchilla as just one of 121 animals caged in the sweltering heat of a hoarding situation. Sal is actually a nice dog despite his shyness... at least to people... other animals however are NOT his friends and he will hide from them under your couch or table... then use his hiding place to his advantage to provide a sudden sneak attack as another animal walks by unsuspecting. He corrects quickly and retreats, however, you will have to plan your strategy around his hiding places if you are to have other animals guests in the home. Perhaps you could be his hero and help this boy relax and realize he is not under attack.
